About Us

OUR VISION

"The New Mentality of Halton seeks to engage youth around the issue of mental health in order to: decrease stigma, increase awareness and foster adult-youth partnerships."

WHO?

The New Mentality Halton is a youth led initiative which focuses on 3 main goals:

  1. To reduce the stigma associated with mental health in the Halton Community.
  2. To advocate for better services and acceptance of differences.
  3. To foster adult-youth partnerships.

The New Mentality Halton is partnered with Children's Mental Health Ontario, The Center of Excellence for Child and Youth Mental Health at CHEO and ROCK (Reach Out Center for Kids). The initiative is part of a provincial project which encourages young people to take action across Ontario and initiate their unique projects. Although the goals are generally common for all regions, variety is promoted and each area is encouraged to come up with their individual projects.

WHAT?

The New Mentality Halton tries to accomplish the goals stated above through:

  • creating a youth driven network across Halton which includes:
  • passionate young people
  • community groups
  • organizations
  • educators/educational institutes
  • caregivers, etc.
  • developing advocacy/raising awareness project or events in the Halton community
  • facilitating presentations to community groups/events
  • encouraging youth involvement and self expression through a variety of channels such as art, music, writing, photography etc.

HOW?

The New Mentality values each of its members and it is up to the volunteers to identify the level of involvement they want to bring into the project. From writing an article to our publication, being a speaker to one of our presentations, helping organize an event or just being part of our advisory team the possibilities are limitless. You decide how much of your time and participation you are willing to give!
